The staff at a skip hire firm in West Woodlands, who have happily shared their office with a family of swallows, saved the birds from disaster.
JW Ransome and Sons employee Kevin Smith arrived for work one morning to discover the nest had collapsed, leaving the chicks on the floor.
Director Kevin Ransome said they did not want to touch them for fear their parents would reject them.
Mr Ransome said: "Kevin improvised by putting what was left of the nest and a piece of cloth in a small saucepan. He then nailed it as near to the original nest site as possible.
"We got advice from a helpline and were told we could put the chicks back into the nest, and it worked.
"The chicks have flourished and flown the nest, and now the parents have had more chicks, which is brilliant.
"What Kevin did was fantastic and because of his quick thinking the birds survived.
"It is a crazy place to nest, but they seem to be used to people coming and going."
