The cost of clearing flytipping in Somerset is less than half the national average, according to the Somerset Waste Partnership(SWP).
Recent figures released by Defra show the estimated cost of dealing with flytipping in counties across England, including Somerset, is about £303,000 a year.
But the SWP dispute this estimate and said it does not accurately reflect the true cost in Somerset, stating that the true average is closer to £150,000.
SWP said the Defra figures quoted for the county are based on national average costs, and Somerset's councils have been able to do the same job for significantly less.
Based on actual average costs supplied by the five districts, SWP estimates an annual bill of £150,000 for fly-tipping in the year up to the end of March 2012.
Of that figure, £48,000 was reimbursed by Somerset County Council to district councils to cover the additional costs when fly-tipping rose, after charges and changes were made at recycling sites to save £1.9 million a year.
Councillor Derek Yeomans, SWP chairman, said: "With fly-tipping levels across the county falling in 2012/13 – as we predicted – we expect the bill to be lower for the current year, including an aggregate of about £38,000 paid by SCC to district councils to meet their reducing overall costs.
"Critically, Somerset's councils have worked closely together to ensure the district councils do not have to pick up any extra financial burden as a result of the savings reluctantly made by SCC, and to jointly tackle the criminal and anti-social behaviour that lies behind the problem."
