A new gymnastics club has been launched in Frome by head coach Sue Hounsell.

The club's new facility at Vallis Mills Trading Estate opened three weeks ago and features a fully-sprung floor as well as a host of gymnastics equipment.

Recreational classes for school-age children already take place after school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, as well as Saturday mornings, and there are plans for coaching on other days as numbers grow.

A club spokesperson said: "As a British Gymnastics registered club, Liberty is primarily a women's artistic club, but welcomes all boys.

"We have a dedicated, fully-equipped centre, with British Gymnastics fully-qualified coaches, who have a wealth of competition experience.

"Gymnastics underpins the fundamental practices that all sports require – balance, flexibility, power, strength, co-ordination; the list goes on.

"At Liberty we realise the importance of this and structure our classes to include them all, in a safe environment with the added bonus of having lots and lots of fun."

Liberty currently has a 25-strong development squad, ranging from four to 16 years old, competing at county and regional competitions, and training up to 19 hours per week.

Three of the club's coaches have judging qualifications, while a boys' development programme is also in the pipeline.

In recreational classes at Liberty, gymnasts can work towards their British Gymnastics Proficiency Awards 1-8. The club also offers pre-school sessions, parties, adult gymnastics and fitness classes.
