A free training course to help young people into work is being held next week.

The Kick Start project is run by the Volunteer Network and the course, which is accredited and will lead to volunteer work, is being held at Bridge House, Trowbridge, from Monday, with transport provided.

The workshop is open to teenagers aged between 16 and 18 who are unemployed and not in any form of education or training.

The course will cover rights and responsibilities, equal opportunities, diversity, voting and government, living in a community and team work.

This is followed by getting the participants involved in volunteering activities to enhance work experience skills.

Examples of volunteering include helping out at an RSPCA animal sanctuary, goat herding in North Devon, stewarding at the Badminton Horse Trials, fundraising for charities through Dragonboat racing or being a crew member at the Bath and West Show or international triathlon ironman competitions.

A spokeswoman for the Volunteer Network said: "If we get enough interest from Frome residents we will be able to run a course in the town."
