Gardens are in full bloom after gales

Frenzied activity from a dozen Mells residents who opened their gardens to the public at the weekend came after days of monsoon rains and 70mph gales.

Once a carpet of shredded leaves and twigs had been cleared away and staking sorted out the gardens were ready to welcome the 270 visitors who enjoyed a day of glorious sunshine in the lanes and gardens of Mells.

The plants stall and the Tithe Barn lunches and teas did a roaring trade, thanks to the hard work of an army of volunteers.

About £1,800 was raised for the community run village shop and cafe.
