Jim Plunkett-Cole second in Warminster for Frome Running Club

Frome Running Club members tested their mettle in several local events recently, with Pete Grist (SM) leading the club home at the Southwick 5k Parkrun in 17mins 23secs.

Michelle Caines (FV35) clocked a Parkrun best of 26:14 and Graham Farley (MV45) completed the course in 28:27.

Nine Frome members attended the Warminster Canny 10k and Jim Plunkett-Cole (MV40) finished as the overall runner- up in 38:30. Steve Carroll (MV50) crossed the line second in his age group in 47:52, with Jacqui Betts first FV40 in 49:23.

Other times were: Frances Hunter (SF) 49:32, Kate Wareham (FV40) 54:08, Jo Riley (FV40) 54:09, Carolyn Nicholls (FV40) 54:11, Simone Dumergue (FV40) 55:23 and Elly Cope (SF) 56:03.

In Dorset, Graham Farley (MV45) recorded a new PB of 57:28 at the Kingston Lacy 10k, while Claire Murphy (FV40) clocked 64:50.

At the Chippenham five-mile road race – the sixth round of the Wiltshire Road Race League – five Frome representatives scored points for the club as they remain third in Division 2.

Robin-Mark Schols was first MV50 in 32:17 for a new PB, closely followed by Keith Robinson (MV60), who also finished first in his age group with 32:26.

Other times were: Dave Williams (MV50) 33:12, Pete Berryman (MV45) 36:39 and Judy Bryant (FV45) 43:22.

Schols and Bryant were also in action at the Heddington 5k near Calne in Wiltshire, recording times of 19:08 and 25:28 respectively.

Four members were in action at the Yeovilton 5k – race two of the Summer Series. Dan Berryman (SM) was the first Frome runner, storming home in 18:27.

Dave Williams (MV50) clocked 19:03, Damon Lanfear (SM) recorded 19:34 and Nick Best (MV40) posted 21:11.

Finally, Benjamin Barrell (SM) took part in the Marlborough Downs Challenge last month, an ultra marathon of more than 33 miles.

Barrell finished 24th in a field of more than 150 entrants, recording a new best time of 5hrs 2mins 39secs over the tough hilly course.

Frome Running Club meet every Wednesday at the rugby club on Gypsy Lane at 6.45pm, ready to run at 7pm.
