A major milestone has been reached with the building of the new health centre next to Frome Community Hospital.
The topping out ceremony has taken place attended by construction workers and the medical staff who will be working in the building.
Senior quantity surveyor for contractor Interserve, Andy Davies said: "The topping out of any project is a major milestone in its construction as it marks the completion of the external envelope of the building.
"Having endured the unseasonably wet weather of the spring and summer, we are delighted to have reached this turning point on programme for completion in December.
"As our attention now turns to the interior of the medical centre we will continue to work closely with all the partners and staff at Frome Medical Practice to ensure the high standard of healthcare the new building will offer the town is delivered."
Once open, the £10.5 million health centre will have an optician, pharmacy, cafe and operating theatre able to handle daycare patients.
Senior partner at the practice, Dr Tina Merry said: "We are extremely pleased to see the enormous progress that has been made with the building, particularly as the contractors have had to cope with one of the wettest summers in memory.
"Now that the interior has begun to be fitted out it is possible to actually see what a great asset the building will be for the people of Frome and surrounding area.
"We are on course for opening in January. Once finished, the town really will have a health facility second to none."
